The Greater Houston Lions Club is taking on an exciting environmental challenge: collecting 1,000 pounds of soft plastics to be recycled into a durable community park bench. Instead of ending up in landfills, these plastics will be transformed into something useful and lasting—a place where neighbors can sit, gather, and enjoy the outdoors.
What counts as soft plastics? More than you might think! We’re collecting everyday items like grocery bags, bread bags, bubble wrap, dry-cleaning bags, newspaper sleeves, ice bags, plastic shipping envelopes, Ziploc and food storage bags, cereal bags, case overwrap, salt bags, pallet wrap, wood pellet bags, and even produce bags. As long as the plastic is clean, dry, and free of food residue, it can be recycled into our community project.
By working together, we’re not only reducing plastic waste but also creating something tangible that reflects the power of service and sustainability. Every bag donated brings us one step closer to a greener Houston and a bench built by the community, for the community.
Lions need to take a picture handing it off to one of the partner locations. Post the weight & the picture into our club's WhatsApp group chat.
